![]() ![]() By using command line arguments you can work around that problem and can also use a profile stored on a USB drive/stick. When you ran "thunderbird using command prompt under windows" did you specify the path to the profile you wanted it to use as a command line argument? Each operating system has its own copy of profiles.ini, so when you boot OSX it does not automatically know about whatever profiles Windows knows about and vice versa. Portable Thunderbird is hard coded to look for the profile in a specific location on the USB drive/stick. The profiles are compatible, the issue is Thunderbird and Portable Thunderbird have different ways of finding a profile. Portable Thunderbird is designed for roaming users (who typically go to a random PC and want to start using it without installing anything on it) so it deliberately ignores any profiles.ini files. Hence, I wonder if profiles created under Mac and PC are different !! I tried running thunderbird using command prompt under windows (your previous link) but it didn't recognize profile created using Mac. ![]() Zaxour wrote:I have portable thunderbird PC version working but when I fire the same *exe under wine, it doesn't recognize the profile (and mails, local folders) that I have already created under windows. If installation of wine is illegal then I would remove it rightaway and ask my boss to get me a PC. I would certainly like to know what illegal I have done, as certainly, I don't want any troubles behind me. Its for running few PC programs (as we are almost PC-less environment) and the kind of work I do needs few PC programs, as, again, I am not a geek to play with command-line. Of course, we don't use any illegal/pirated software, that much trust is present between IT dept and us (otherwise they DO take action) I am in academic settings and we have installation rights, just because IT personnel just doesn't have time to help installing everyone what they want. On a work machine, and if the IT people hadn't blocked the address, I think I'd read my Gmail in the browser by surfing to:Īt home, you could set up Thunderbird to see the same account as described here: I think what you want to do is too darn complicated anyway. If you don't own the machine, I'd advise you play safe, and not make any changes to it that your IT people may later question if they do decide to take more notice. Unless it's your own business, it's surprising your IT department hasn't locked it down so that you can't install software on it yourself. ![]() Given the first two sentences, is the action described in the following one wise?Īnd in your very first post you do say that the Apple machine is a work one. I installed wine and winebottler on my machine. Zaxour wrote:Sorry, I misunderstood your suggestion. ![]()
